Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon receives the Vakinn environmental certification
Fosshótel Glacier Lagoon has earned the Vakinn grading certification, the official quality and environmental system within the Icelandic tourist industry. The system is controlled by the Icelandic Tourist Board with the main goal being to support environmental, sustainable and responsible tourism. Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon now prides itself with four certified stars and bronze environmental certification. As of today, Íslandshotel now has 7 hotels operating under the Vakinn grading and environmental certifications in addition to its restaurants, the Beer Garden, Haust and Grand Restaurant.
Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon is a four- star hotel which opened in June 2016. The hotel is located in Hnappavellir, a popular climbing area right between Skaftafell and the Glacier Lagoon, two of Iceland´s most spectacular natural attractions.
The hotel offers 104 rooms in five room categories and features a bar and a stunning, first-class restaurant as well as state-of-the-art architecture and design. The hotel is entirely built using natural materials. As an example, the structural frame is made out of recyclable wood from recyclable forests leaving a positive carbon footprint. All cleaning materials within the hotel and all cosmetic products are certified environmentally friendly.
Fosshótel Glacial Lagoon is a proud participant in the Vakinn environmental grading system which is based on a corresponding system with Qualmark in New Zealand.
One of Vakinn´s objectives is to get a majority of Icelandic tourism providers to engage in environmental and social issues and obtain an official recognition for their contribution in these matters.
